How Can We Learn
to Accept Differences?

On the face of it, Jeremy’s Mom is different. She has a large scar on her face that embarrasses Jeremy when he is seen with her.

The boy doesn’t want his teachers and classmates at his new school to meet his mom. So when Jeremy’s mother plans to come to a student-teacher conference at school, he would rather that his dad came alone. The story looks at both sides of being different. It is difficult for Jeremy since he doesn’t want to stand out because of his mother’s appearance. And it is certainly not easy for his mother, who must deal with people staring and feeling different.

Will things change when Jeremy’s dad reveals the origin of his mother’s scar? This touching story teaches us all lessons about hurt feelings and being proud of who we are.
