Author Louisa Korschenko was inspired to write this true story whilst she was recouperating after Neena accidentally fell on her leg. The incident extended the family’s trip in Thailand and gave rise to her son’s growing relationship with the baby elephant. As the boy and the young elephant bond, Neena allows Jonathan to ride her, the very first person ever to do so!

Louisa Korschenko says, “I wanted to inspire children with a yearning for adventure and a love of elephants.” The author lives in Brisbane, Australia, and is writing her next book about life on a cattle station in the Australian Outback.
