Wish Dog Tales: Afraid of the Dark by Lisa Shelton

About the Book

Remember how scary it was to go to bed after the lights were turned off? You thought monsters were hiding under the bed. Or maybe they were in the closet!

Wish Dog Tales: Afraid of the Dark is the first in a book series that tackles problems children face every day. The Wish Dogs grant children’s wishes in fun, yet realistic ways. Afraid of the Dark is about a little girl named Katie, who hears noises and sees shadows at night that frighten her. The Wish Dogs, Sophie and Gracie, come to her aid by trying to discover what is actually happening. With their help, Katie is able to see there is nothing to be afraid of, and she becomes much braver in the dark.

When Katie wakes in the morning, there are two stuffed dogs on her desk that look exactly like the Wish Dogs, making her wonder if her adventures were real or a dream! Wish Dog Tales is a dream come true.

Lisa Shelton lives in Fort Worth, Texas, with her husband, daughter, and her own Wish Dogs, Sophie and Gracie. She is currently working on her next book, Wish Dog Tales: A New Friend, about a boy needing to show his parents he can be responsible enough to have a pet frog, and the Wish Dogs are there to help! “I write to inspire children to not be afraid to wish for things, and to know that it’s all right to dream, hope, and to believe in wonderful, fantastic things. I want them to see that it’s all right to face your fears and to know that even though you’re small, you can still be brave.”
